BBC Books reveals first-look at new Doctor Who novels

We are pretty stoked that former Doctor Who showrunners Russell T Davies and Steven Moffat will be returning to the franchise to pen new Target novel adaptations.

The two have written versions of their episodes 'Rose' and 'The Day of the Doctor', respectively, and we now have a first look at their amazing covers.

Also penning adaptations of the post-2005 Doctor Who series are Paul Cornell for Twice Upon a Time and Jenny T Colgan novelising The Christmas Invasion.

James Goss has taken on the Douglas Adams episode City of Death, which is one of the only classic Doctor Who episodes that was not included in the original Target novelisations. Better late than never, we suppose.

The novels are released on April 5, and will help pass the time as we count down to Jodie Whittaker's first TV series as the Doctor later this year.

While we have no doubt that she will ace it, one star who really has her back is former Doctor Christopher Eccleston – who first played the Time Lord in 'Rose'.

"She will be the best Doctor. I mean why did they have to wait so long?" he said, noting that the role has been played by "too many skinny white men like me".

"I absolutely loved playing the character and I'm so glad it's being reinvented."

Earlier this week, we also got a brand new logo and look for the Whittaker era, so count us very excited.

Doctor Who series 11 will debut in Autumn 2018 on BBC One.
