BBC Breakfast fans support Amy Dowden as she offers poignant insight into show return
BBC Breakfast viewers rallied around Amy Dowden as she shared details about her anticipated comeback to the show.
The 34 year old professional dancer is poised to grace the dance floor again tonight after a challenging year, having been diagnosed with stage three breast cancer shortly following her honeymoon.
Now in remission, she's set to chase the Glitterball trophy with her celebrity partner, JLS star JB Gill, in the landmark 20th anniversary series of the show.
Amy joined BBC Breakfast on Saturday, where a pre-recorded segment with David Sillito saw her open up about her emotional return, describing it as 'feels like coming home'.
David introduced the piece, highlighting: "For Amy Dowden this truly is part of an emotional journey as she returns to the show after treatment for cancer."

He then asked Amy directly: "How are you? " To which she responded: "I'm much better thank you and what a difference a year can make," reports the Express.
David continued: "It's quite tough though coming back I'm guessing." Amy replied: "Um, it just feels like I'm coming back home and I didn't really go away I guess because I was so lucky last year with the production team keeping me involved."
She elaborated: "My Strictly family have been with me every step of the way so it doesn't feel like I've been away. It's different now because I get to come back dancing this year and I've got a fabulous partner and I'm going to make the most of every second because we don't know what is around the corner."
In other news, JLS star JB expressed his excitement about pairing up with Amy on the show, noting that he couldn't be in better hands.
With his arm affectionately around Amy, JB remarked: "I was basically born on that big Saturday night of course with the X-Factor but I had a couple more people standing next to me then but I'm in great hands here with Amy."
These upbeat announcements come amidst the backdrop of controversy within the dance world. The storm began when Amanda Abbington accused her professional dance partner Giovanni Pernice of abusive behaviour - allegations Pernice strongly denies.
The drama intensified with reports claiming Graziano Di Prima was dismissed for purportedly "kicking" his celebrity partner, Love Island's Zara McDermott, during practice sessions. In response, the BBC has confirmed the introduction of chaperones during rehearsal times for the upcoming series.
BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One and iPlayer
