BBC Breakfast viewers were in fits of laughter this morning (22 September) after Rick Astley received a very awkward introduction to the show.

After finishing his weather update, meteorologist Matt Taylor was asked by host Charlie Stayt whether he was a fan of the “Never Gonna Give You Up” singer, to which he replied: "Err not a massive one.”

Laughing nervously, Stayt said: "That was the wrong thing to say. He's listening and he's coming up in just a moment."

The camera then cut to Astley, who appeared to find the blunder very funny.

"I'll ask you again," said Stayt. "Are you a Rick Astley fan?"

"Love Rick Astley. Best! Grew up with him!" Taylor replied.

Viewers found the encounter hilarious, with one person writing on Twitter that it was “the best bit of telly this week".

“Brilliant!” added another. “With all the doom and gloom at the moment we need more moments like this in the morning! I love Rick's music! Loved Rick's response too! Very funny!”

“Highly enjoyable,” tweeted a third.

Astley himself tweeted the show to say “all is forgiven”.

The singer was on the show to promote his new single, “Every One of Us”, featuring the BBC Sports Personality of the Year's Unsung Heroes.

All of the profits from the single will be donated to BBC Children in Need.
