Poor old Dan Walker had a bit of a moment this morning, dropping the brand new pound coin down the back of a sofa.

The BBC Breakfast presenter and co-host Louise Minchin were among the first to be given the Royal Mint's brand spanking new £1 coin on today's (March 27) show.

So what's the first thing Walker does? He goes and loses the damn thing behind the studio sofa.

The cameras cut to the studio after a report on the coin had just aired, though only Minchin was seen on the sofa.

"Well, we have a first here," Minchin declared. "I have my pound coin, Dan has actually lost his pound coin. The first pound coin down the back of the sofa already!"

Walker's head then popped up, the presenter explaining: "I went for the first toss of the new pound coin to do a sort of heads and tails thing, and it sort of disappeared down here somewhere."

Minchin asked if he had found it yet, though he was still desperately searching for the shiny coin behind their sofa.

However, as the programme cut away to the news, Walker came up triumphant as he finally managed to retrieve the coin and held it up. *phew*

The new coin, which is due to go into circulation tomorrow (March 28), has 12 sides and is touted as the most secure ever, with features to prevent fraud, such as a hologram.

Still, it seems the coin hasn't mastered the art of being loss-proof.
