BBC Breakfast’s Sally Nugent and Jon Kay reach out to Dan Walker with sweet message after horror bike crash
BBC Breakfast co-hosts Sally Nugent and Jon Kay have sent their well wishes to former colleague Dan Walker following his bike crash.
Walker, 45, revealed earlier this week that he had been hit by a car while cycling as he shared photos of his bloodied face in an ambulance on social media.
The Channel 5 presenter said that he was “glad to be alive” as he assured followers that he wasn’t left with serious injuries and thanked NHS staff for helping him after the collision.
Nugent, 51, and Kay, 53, shared their hopes of a speedy recovery for Walker as they referred to his horrific crash in the headlines for the day on BBC Breakfast.
“On the BBC News website, here’s a familiar face everyone,” Nugent said.
“Dan Walker, our Dan, was injured after his collision with a car while he was cycling yesterday.
“Now, he’s OK, he tweeted photos with the message he’s glad to be alive.”
The presenter added: “Later on he confirmed he’d obviously been checked out and had amazing help from the ambulance service and the NHS and he is now home resting, he’s OK.’
Kay said: “It sounds like he was out cold for 20 minutes or so, wasn’t he? Get well soon Dan.”
Walker began hosting BBC Breakfast alongside Nugent in 2016. He left the show to present on Channel 5 last year.
The journalist gave fans an update on his progress following his accident on Instagram Stories on Monday.
Walker shared that he’s had difficulty sleeping, possibly due to the medication he’s had to take for his injuries.
He wrote: “Can’t sleep… too many drugs I think.”
Walked continued to praise those who sent supportive messages to him following his incident.
He added: “Just reading through some of the 1000s of messages today.
“Thank you so much. It’s so kind of you all. If my eyes weren’t so swollen, I might have a little cry. Thank you!”
