Former BBC Breakfast host Louise Minchin has claimed that she's been "banned" from ever appearing on Strictly Come Dancing – by her children.

Following her departure from BBC Breakfast in 2021, Minchin has taken part in several reality shows including I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!, Celebrity MasterChef and Time Crashers. She's also going to appear in an upcoming Gladiators celebrity special.

However, the presenter has now revealed that a possible ballroom debut on Strictly is where her kids have drawn the line.

"They know I'm a terrible dancer so the possibility of being hugely embarrassing is massive," she told The Times. "I'm banned for being embarrassing."

While an appearance on Strictly seems far from reach unless Minchin's children have a change of heart, viewers will soon be able to see her taking on challenges in the Gladiators arena.

"I am so excited to be on Gladiators," she said when the celebrity special's line-up was announced last month.

"I have watched the show for years and have always thought it looked like terrifying fun, and I can't wait to be part of it!"

Other famous faces set to appear in the celebrity edition of Bradley and Barney Walsh's challenge show include Ted Lasso's Ellie Taylor, comedian Rob Beckett and Survivor's Joel Dommett.

The special's release date will be announced by BBC One in due course.

Strictly Come Dancing returned for its latest series over the weekend, with a launch show revealing which professional dancers the celebrity contestants are paired up with.

Its premiere episode saw its overnight rating figures drop by nearly one million, with 5.5 million viewers tuning in. This is compared to Strictly's 2023 premiere, which saw an audience of 6.2 million viewers tune in.

However, this overnight total doesn't take into account catch-up figures, including viewers on streaming service BBC iPlayer.

Strictly Come Dancing will return on Saturday, September 14 on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
