BBC Breakfast's Rachel Burden snaps at Charlie Stayt over age jibe
BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt took a swipe at his co-host's age on the red sofa during this morning's episode (August 24) and it sparked a tense exchange between the pair.
Stayt and Rachel Burden were hosting from their usual spot on the iconic red sofa and got talking about a musical based on the Now That's What I Call Music album series. It didn't take long for Charlie to rib Rachel about the nostalgia trip.
Cheekily, he prodded his co-host with a question about memory and music: "So you might remember the first album you ever bought, can you remember which Now That's What I Call Music you got?".
Rachel replied: "No chance. I think it's in the early numbers", prompting Charlie to jest: "What? One?".
Taken aback, Rachel exclaimed: "No! Not one! " as she shuffled away from Charlie on the settee, reports the Mirror.
Charlie tried to mollify the situation with: "Well it's only been 40 years", but the peace attempt fell flat.
Rachel, aged 55, tried to sidestep the moment, saying: "Maybe eight, nine, I don't know. I'm not going to go there."
Seamlessly moving forward, Charlie introduced the new stage production, asking: "Compilation albums, in case you don't know, 40 years of compilation albums and a new musical has been developed featuring some of the biggest hits from the 1980s, do you remember those?".
With a slight, knowing grin, Rachel responded: "Yes. Vaguely."
BBC Breakfast is available to watch from 6am every day on BBC One.
