BBC confirms return of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief – but there’s a TWIST

BBC One has confirmed the return of Let’s Dance for Comic Relief in 2017, promising that the comedy talent contest will be bigger and better than ever before.

Following its original launch in 2009, Let’s Dance ran for five series as part of the annual Comic and Sport Relief fundraisers, but was quietly axed in 2013 due to declining ratings.

The programme centered on celebrities taking to the stage to recreate famous dance routines – highlights included Robert Webb’s lyrca clad Flashdance routine and Rufus Hound’s full-on sass performance of Fight For This Love.

On Thursday BBC One announced the show’s return ahead of next year’s Red Nose Day after a three-year hiatus, but this time around celebrities will be facing double the challenge.

As well as busting out some moves, the new batch of contestants will be taking to the mic to sing some of pops biggest hits in front of a star-studded panel of celebrity and comedy guest judges.

The new supersized edition of the show – aptly retitled Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief – will present more celebrities, donning more fantastic outfits, as they attempt to progress through three live heats before a live grand finale.

Charlotte Ashton, the charity’s Creative Director, said: “We are thrilled that Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief will be part of next year’s Red Nose Day campaign.

“We hope that the celebrities doing their bit will encourage the nation to fundraise and donate to raise a life changing amount of money for people living the toughest lives in the UK and across Africa.”

Steve Jones and Alex Jones fronted the previous incarnation of the show, but BBC bosses have yet to confirm who the presenters will be in 2017.

Let’s Sing and Dance for Comic Relief will help to boost the broadcaster’s spring entertainment schedule after losing The Voice UK to ITV, with Saturday nights chock-full of performances from some of the nation’s favourite faces. We can’t wait!
