Forecasters believe parts of North Staffordshire could be hit with 'heavy snow' next week as the UK is braced for a blast of Arctic air. The Met Office has warned of 'winter hazards' as the weather takes a chilly twist.

StokeonTrentLive had reported earlier today how temperatures are set to plummet into next week with the Potteries expected to be hit by sleet. Now the BBC reckons hillier parts of the Moorlands, such as Flash, will see snow moving in on Tuesday night and will turn heavy the following morning.

That marks the beginning of a series of snowy days in that part of North Staffordshire which will last until Friday night - albeit with lighter flurries. While the city will just see sleet, it's set to be cold next week with lows of 2C and highs of only around 4C.

It follows what has been a dry start to November with the UK experiencing its driest beginning tot he month on record - in a series dating back to 3.5mm. Meanwhile meteorologists have warned of 'winter hazards' with families urged to keep updated with the latest forecasts.

Mark Sidaway, Met Office deputy chief meteorologist, said: "The high pressure that has been responsible for the mainly dry weather through much of this week will retrogress into the Atlantic as we get towards the weekend. This will gradually introduce more unsettled weather, initially in the north from Friday but more widely from Sunday.

“In addition to this increased rainfall, which could be heavy at times on Sunday, temperatures will also drop, especially for those in Scotland, as a northerly airflow develops, bringing colder Arctic air to some northern areas.

“This shift does introduce the possibility of snow, initially over high ground in the north from Sunday, with gusty winds also a potential hazard. There is a lot of uncertainty by Sunday, but there remain a number of scenarios which could bring some more widespread rain, along with some hill snow and stronger winds. Warnings for winter hazards are possible later in the weekend, so it’s important to stay up to date with the latest forecast.”

Meanwhile weather maps service WX Charts is predicting wintry conditions for Stoke-on-Trent and North Staffordshire from November 20, in what again is an ever-changing forecast.
