Dion Dublin was left stunned as the owners of a property featured on Homes Under the Hammer revealed a shocking find that had led them to call in the police. Derby-based duo Lee and Laura shared their harrowing experience with the former footballer-turned-BBC-presenter after buying a plot for £60,000 at auction.

The couple had revealed plans to build a four-bedroom house on the site. But instead they had to stop work and the whole street was evacuated as they prepared to lay the foundations. Lee, who owns a building company, was shocked to discover a hand grenade hidden in the bushes at the back of the property.

While standing in the garden, Lee recounted the moment to Dion, saying: "We found a bomb, didn't we?" Dion was visibly shocked, responding with a bewildered: "Hold on, what?"

Lee explained that the entire street had to be evacuated following the frightening find, detailing: "There was a 20-ft hedge along this fence, about six ft deep, and when the lads were digging it out, they came across a hand grenade."

The situation escalated as Lee continued: "We had to call the police, and the bomb squad came down. They evacuated all the houses down here."

Despite the unexpected interruption, Laura and Lee revealed that the site was ideal for their plans, except for the explosive hiccup. The couple intends to invest £170,000 into creating a three-storey rental property to boost their income.

Once finished, local estate agents forecast that the property could fetch a monthly rent of around £1,200 or be sold for a whopping £325,000.

It is not the first bizarre moment on the BBC property show. Dion's co-host Martin Roberts previously spoke about the moment the crew thought they’d stumbled across a dead body. Martin, 61, revealed: "We went to this one house, which had clearly been lived in until very recently.

"Almost like the kettle was still hot kind of thing and we went in and then the director went and had a look around. And she came out absolutely ashen in the face. And she said, 'There is a dead body! There's a dead body in the bed'."

Martin said the team heard snoring and it actually turned out an elderly man had been forgotten by his family. Martin told the Daily Mail: "And then this old man sat bolt upright, no teeth and said, 'Where's my family? ' and the people had left in such a rush that they forgot grandad. Grandad was still sleeping in the bed."
