BBC presenter's hilarious Yorkshire pudding after 'losing' tin - but people are obsessed
A BBC Radio 1 presenter brought smiles to her followers with her Yorkshire pudding escapade after she lost the tin she typically uses to make the dish.
Today (Sunday, February 2) is celebrated as British Yorkshire Pudding Day to honour the cherished savoury companion of a roast. Presenter Natalie O'Leary once found herself in a baking bind.
Owing to the disappearance of her usual cake tin, Natalie was prompted to 'improvise' and turned to a rectangular glass roasting dish to make Yorkshire puddings in instead. The resulting bake was amusingly atypical - instead of several modest round puddings, Natalie ended up with a giant singular pudding resembling the shape and size of its unconventional vessel.

Capturing her comedic kitchen mishap, Natalie posted the proceedings on TikTok. The brief, humorous video shows Natalie cautiously retrieving the huge pudding from the steamy clutches of her oven with the aid of a tea towel, while an off-camera voice expresses astonishment with remarks like "oh my God it’s stuck" and "oh my God it’s huge!", followed by chuckles at the spectacle. Natalie captioned her TikTok video "the biggest yorkie I've ever and it has amassed a whopping 7.6 million views, a staggering 516,000 likes and over 2,800 comments.
Viewers were obsessed with her creation, with one particularly amused commentator saying: "That’s the whole United Kingdom pudding not just Yorkshire!" while another proposed: "I would simply just put my whole roast dinner inside that beautiful bowl and not share." One avid admirer of Natalie's sizeable Yorkshire pudding creation labelled it the "Yorkshire pudding of dreams."
Echoing a sentiment that's undeniably Northern, another commented: "That’s why we have a tin just for Yorkshires and no one is allowed to use it or touch it #NorthernRules haha." Others were equally enthusiastic, with remarks such as: "I see nothing wrong with this scenario #yorkshirepuddingforlife" and someone confessing their culinary cravings: "The way I’d DEVOUR that. I love Yorkshire pudding."
The discussion took an interesting turn as some participants revealed various familial names for this British classic. A revelation was shared: "I had no idea that’s what they were called, my family called it German pancakes", which prompted agreement with a reply of "mine too."
Another intrigued user questioned: "Wait. It’s called that. My family always called them hootenanny pancakes...".
A curious mind inquired further: "Is that like a Dutch baby/German pancake?" The classic British Yorkshire pudding is a savoury delight made from batter comprising flour, eggs, and milk, occasionally enhanced with oil.
In contrast, the German pancake, often interchangeably called a Hootenanny, bears a resemblance to its large Yorkshire cousin yet diverges in taste profile due to its composition of eggs, milk, flour and potential additions of butter and vanilla. Although similar in appearance, a German pancake is typically eaten at the breakfast table, adorned with sweet toppings like syrup, pivoting towards dessert territory compared to its savoury counterpart.
