BBC radio presenter Vicki Archer dies, aged 41

Vicki Archer, a BBC Radio Shropshire presenter, has died at the age of 41.

She had been part of the Radio Shropshire team for over 20 years and had presented the station's afternoon drivetime show since 2010. Elsewhere, she had worked as a voiceover artist, event host and on commercial radio.

BBC News reports that no details have been revealed about her death, but said that she died "suddenly".

"Vicki was a much loved daughter and mother as well as being an extremely talented broadcaster," her family said in a statement.

"We are still coming to terms with her tragic loss so would ask that people respect our privacy and leave us alone to grieve as a family."

Vicki's sometimes co-presenter Carl Jones was among those paying tribute to the presenter and said that her loss would leave a "huge void".

"Such sad news - it was my pleasure and privilege to work with Vicki for the past eight years, and co-present the @bbcshropshire drive-time show with her on many occasions," he said.

"One of life's truly good people, who will leave a huge void."

Radio Shropshire presenter Eric Smith announce Vicki's death on air yesterday (August 7), saying "she was a great presenter, a great broadcaster, and she brought a wonderful sense of fun to her shows and behind the scenes in the newsroom too".

"I am sad and numb," Vicki's drivetime co-host Adam Green added. "Vicki was a lovely human being with a big heart. She was kind, generous, creative, warm and friendly to all she met.

"In the 8 years I have worked with her there wasn't a day when we didn't laugh out loud. My thoughts are with her beautiful children and family."

Several others paid tribute to the presenter, with head of regional programmes for the West Midlands, David Jennings, releasing a statement saying: "We are heartbroken at Vicki's death.

"Everyone here at Radio Shropshire respected her as a great presenter and journalist, but so much more than that we loved the sense of fun she brought to her shows and the station. Her loss leaves a huge void. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time."
