BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay show hosts revealed - how to apply for tickets

Broadcaster Amy Irons will lead BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay celebrations this year, as the station looks to update its New Year’s Eve coverage.

For the first time, radio and TV personality Amy Irons will host Hogmanay 2024 on BBC One Scotland. and the bulk of the show is to be pre-recorded event which will take place on December 8.

Over on the BBC Scotland channel, comedian and broadcaster Des Clarke will present the Not Quite End of Year Show as the countdown to the bells begins, also a pre-record.

The public are being invited to "put on your Hogmanay glad rags and help us to celebrate an early New Year in Studio A in BBC Scotland Pacific Quay, Glasgow."

Irons will be joined in the studio by former Wet Wet Wet singer Marti Pellow, traditional Scottish Celtic Folk band Skipinnish, and Scottish country folk artist Rianne Downey.

The BBC does plan to cover countdown to The Bells live from Edinburgh with the traditional Lone Piper on the ramparts of Edinburgh Castle, the firing of the Mons Megs to mark Midnight and a spectacular fireworks display from the sky above Scotland’s capital city.

Skipinnish will lead a rendition of Auld Lang Syne, accompanied by Scottish jazz vocalist Georgia Cécile.

Irons said: “I couldn’t be more thrilled to be hosting Hogmanay for the first time and to celebrate Scotland’s most iconic night with viewers across the country. It’s an honour to be following some pretty impressive footsteps and taking on this gig. We’ve got an incredible line-up of talent joining us on the night to get the party started and make sure 2025 arrives in style.”

Earlier in the evening, audiences can join Des Clarke as he hosts the Not Quite End of Year Show on the BBC Scotland channel, which reflects on Scotland’s standout moments from 2024.

Des, who will be joined by special guests to look back on the year, said: “It’s such a joy to be part of Hogmanay on BBC Scotland.

“2024 has been filled with so many incredible moments, and I can’t wait to look back on them with our guests.”

Viewers across Scotland are invited to join the recording of BBC Scotland’s Hogmanay show on December 8. Audience tickets are available now on the BBC Shows and Tours website and will be allocated through a random ballot.
