There are a whole bunch of secret tapes of BBC stars doing very naughty things, and they're about to become available to the public.

December 2018 marks the 40th anniversary of the BBC VT Christmas Tapes, a series of risqué blooper reels compiled by the BBC’s video department. The festive mash-ups are specially-filmed comedy sketches that were never intended for public viewing and usually shown at staff Christmas parties.

But now, in a special programme titled The Secret Story of the BBC Christmas Tapes, audiences will get to see some of the BBC's biggest stars dropping C-bombs and performing saucy sketches like it's going out of fashion.

Only here can you see former Doctor Who star Tom Baker swear at his robotic dog K9, Les Dawson sing a festive song about a sex-starved gorilla, and Dame Judi Dench completely lose the plot on the set of Jackanory – which is totally understandable.

The first Christmas tape is infamous for a cheekily re-edited interview with Princess Anne, where she appears to confess to Grandstand host David Coleman that she has experienced sex several times.

The editing of her answers provided many a laugh at the Christmas party, but the news was leaked to a journalist and ended up becoming a frontpage story for The Sunday People.

Other NSFW features on the programme include I'm a Celeb's Noel Edmonds fluffing his lines on Swap Shop, David Suchet receiving a custard pie in the face, and some hilarious outtakes between Ronnie Barker and David Jason on the set of Open All Hours.

The Secret Story of the BBC Christmas Tapes is due to be broadcast on Sunday, December 23 at 9.30pm on BBC Four.
