BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans say 'really' as It Takes Two announcement sparks questions
Strictly Come Dancing fans were quick to ask questions after an announcement was made about an upcoming routine during the first episode of spin-off It Takes Two.
The BBC2 show returned to screens on Monday night (September 23) with co-presenters Janette Manrara and Fleur East hosting together following week one of the BBC One dance contest over the weekend.
It was on Saturday night (September 21) that the competition really got underway as all 15 of the new Strictly couples performed for the first time followed by the judges' comments and scores.
It was DIY SOS star Nick and his professional dance partner Luba Mushtuk who opened the first live show of the 2024 series with a jive to We Built This City by Starship.
But after impressing with his opening performance, during a day off on Sunday (September 22), Nick picked up an injury. He explained in a video posted to Instagram on Monday (September 23) that his car broke down over the weekend at the side of a motorway with his young son in the car and he quickly tried to change a tyre.
In the process, Nick pulled his bicep and is set to undergo an assessment to see whether he'll be able to carry on into week two of the competition this coming Saturday (September 28), which will be followed by the first dance-off and elimination of the series on Sunday (September 29).
And it was during his appearance on It Takes Two with Luba that it was revealed that their upcoming dance, if it is to go ahead, will be an American Smooth to Blur's Parklife.
But Strictly fans quickly took issue with the choice following their complaints about former footballer Paul Merson and dance partner Karen Hauer's debut routine, which was an American Smooth to Vindaloo by Fat Les.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, @slinehan1 fumed: "An American Smooth to Park Life? Really? I love the American Smooth so please #Strictly producers CHOOSE SONGS THAT FIT THE DAMN DANCE!! #ItTakesTwo." @becca_x94 commented: "First Paul Merson and Vindaloo, now Nick Knowles is doing an American Smooth to Parklife..."
@lovelylaurajd posted: "What’s with the terrible song choices for American Smooths so far this series #Strictly #ItTakesTwo." @Greg_Phillips_ added: "Parklife for an American Smooth. I guess not quite as bad as Vindaloo. But still absolutely ridiculous... #ittakestwo."
