A former England rugby star is reportedly in discussions to feature on this year's edition of Strictly Come Dancing. Danny Cipriani, the retired 36-year-old sports icon, is allegedly having a meeting with BBC to secure a spot on this year's dance competition.

This wouldn't be his first appearance as he has previously showcased his dancing skills in last year's Christmas special, when he was partnered with professional dancer Jowita Przystal and managed to impress the judges. Speculation is rife that the England fly-half is now in talks for a slot in the main competition, reports the Mirror.

According to an inside source, Strictly bosses "would love to have him back". They said the desire to sign up Danny is backed by the rugby star's family who are urging him to agree to take part.

Danny is now said to be having face-to-face talks with show bosses amid talks of his signing up for the show. Speaking about his Christmas special experience, Danny said he felt "privileged" to have had the chance to learn a dance routine with Jowita.

Speaking at the time, he said: "I feel absolutely privileged that I get the opportunity to learn a dance with professional dancers who are experts in their role, and I get coached by them, to get to a level where I feel happy enough to go out and perform it to an audience. It's been an amazing experience.

"It's been a whirlwind of an experience. It's a blessing to step into Jowita's world, and for her to teach me some special moves, but also the humility and the grace that she works under, it's the essence of who she is while being an absolute genius at what she does, it's so nice to be around. She's world class, but so humble."

If he returns to Strictly, it won't be the only TV appearance for Danny who is set to appear on Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby's upcoming Netflix survival show, Bear Hunt. Alongside him will be Spice Girls icon Mel B, TV presenter, Steph McGovern, Inbetweeners star Joe Thomas and singer Una Healy.

Tennis legend Boris Becker and Strictly Come Dancing's judge Shirley Ballas are also rumoured to be participating, alongside Lottie Moss and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen. Model and presenter Leomie Anderson, AFC Richmond captain Kola Bokinni from Ted Tasso and rapper Big Zu are also reportedly set to star. The Mirror has asked the BBC and representatives for Danny for a comment on the Strictly rumours.
