BBC Strictly Come Dancing star dealt crushing blow days before live show

The anticipation has reached its peak as this year's Strictly Come Dancing stars have been matched with their professional dance partners.

In the launch show, BBC audiences were treated to a preview of the season's potential as the celebrity cast performed in a grand group routine to 'Dance Yourself Dizzy' by Liquid Gold. Yet, it seems there may be early drama for one Strictly contestant who appears to have hit a stumbling block before the competition heats up.

Bookmakers suggest that ex-footballer Paul Merson is at risk of being the first to leave the dance floor, with odds standing at 9/4, closely followed by Nick Knowles at 3/1.

Ladbrokes' Alex Apati commented: "Paul Merson will already be praying for extra-time if the latest odds are anything to go by," reports the Express.

Paired with Karen Hauer, the 56 year old sportsman has been encouraged by his partner, who expressed her desire for him to relish every moment on the show.

"I want everyone to enjoy themselves because this is one of the greatest experiences we're going to have the most fun!" Karen told the BBC.

The duo is set to debut with an American Smooth to 'Vindaloo' by Fat Les, and Paul has made no secret of his intention to fully immerse himself in the Strictly experience.

Responding to whether he was pleased to be partnered with Karen, the show's longest-serving pro, he said: "Yeah, I'm well happy. So pleased. You've put the two oldest together... and I'm one of them!"

Despite the potential challenges, it seems JLS star JB Gill is already earning favour to hoist the Glitterball trophy.

He's secured odds of 7/2 to claim victory in the entire contest, closely tailed by Love Island alum Tasha Ghouri at odds of 4/1.

Having conquered her health struggles, Amy Dowden is back on BBC Strictly and paired up with JB. Reflecting on her return, the Strictly pro shared: "I'm delighted, it just feels like my first year all over again. I just want JB to have the best time and fall in love with dancing."
