BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Montell Douglas declares 'we're getting married'

Strictly Come Dancing celebrity Montell Douglas has quipped about tying the knot with her dance partner as they geared up for their debut performance in the contest.

The 2024 series of Strictly has launched with much fanfare following an exciting launch show. In week one, the celebrities and professionals pair up to take on their first routines hoping to secure a good spot on the leaderboard.

While the judges will offer feedback and scores will be given, no one will face elimination during this inaugural week. However, tensions will rise in week two, when the first celebrity will face the music and exit the competition.

Montell, famed as Gladiator Fire, is dancing with Johannes Radebe. For their campaign opener aiming for the champions' trophy, the pair danced a Foxtrot to Is You Is or Is You Ain't My Baby by Dinah Washington.

Ahead of their performance, host Claudia Winkleman complimented the glamorous "Mojo", a nickname for Montell and Johannes. Montell looked stunning in a lace and translucent dress, while Johannes was sharply dressed in a white shirt, cream waistcoat, and pin-striped trousers, reports the Mirror.

"Well, we are getting married," Montell jested, causing a wave of laughter from their fellow Strictly members, with Claudia chiming in: "You're all invited."

Audience members will get the chance to cast their votes come week two on the upcoming Saturday (September 28), and then the season's first elimination will unfold the subsequent evening (Sunday, September 29). Tonight's action will commence at 7pm on BBC One, but there won't be a results show this weekend.

Currently leading the betting odds are X Factor victor Shayne Ward and JLS star JB Gill though former professional dancer Erin Boag has cautioned that Miranda star Sarah Hadland is also a contender to keep an eye on.
