BBC To Pay Top Female Talent The Same As Male Stars After Threats Of Legal Action

The BBC is giving its top women presenters equal pay after warnings of legal action.

Wages have been raised for high-profile women in a secret settlement, the Daily Star reports.

They had protested that men were being paid more to do the same job.

Miriam O’Reilly, below, a former host of hit show Countryfile – who has been helping the women stars get a fair deal – said: “This is not a case of fill my boots, I want more money, I deserve it.

“They have taken their fight for equal pay forward on principle.”

The list of broadcasters being paid more than £450,000 that the BBC is being forced to publish is expected to be dominated by men.

Top earners include Match Of The Day presenter Gary Lineker, Top Gear’s Chris Evans, and talk show host Graham Norton.

A Beeb spokesman said: “We wouldn’t comment on staff pay matters.

“We are fully committed to ensuring all staff are treated fairly and we abide by equal pay legislation.”
