BBC viewers outraged over delayed streaming of hit UK show despite US release

Fans of the BBC series Industry are voicing their annoyance as they find themselves unable to dive into the new season, despite its release across the pond in the United States.

The drama, which debuted in 2020, tracks the cutthroat world of a group of young hopefuls battling it out for permanent spots at Pierpoint & Co, an elite investment bank in London.

Starring talents such as Marisa Abela, Myha'la Herrold, David Jonsson, and Harry Lawtey, the show has also welcomed Game of Thrones star Kit Harington in its third season, playing Henry Muck, the head honcho of a green tech energy firm.

The second season hit screens in 2022, and the latest instalment has just premiered in the US. Yet, British viewers are left feeling miffed as they face a delay in accessing the eight fresh episodes, with no official broadcast date on the horizon.

What they do know is that Industry season three is now up for streaming on HBO in the US while a UK airing on the BBC is expected later in the year, reports the Express.

One fan took to social media to express her disbelief: "Industry is set in London with a mostly British cast and British creators, it's genuinely astounding that *we* get it like a year after they do in the US."

Echoing the sentiment, another viewer remarked: "This feels so deranged when it's a British show lol." Meanwhile, a third lamented the wait, posting: "Grrrrr, I feel like we've waited an age already!"

One online user voiced their frustration, saying: "I understand there may be exclusivity rights and all, but I feel like content should be globally available by default in 2024. Netflix has been doing it for years. Heck, even BBC are doing it with Doctor Who."

Another individual wrote: "Genuinely cannot understand how the BBC have not gotten this together. It's a U.K. show? Eps are dropping weekly? Make it make sense."

The situation also drew comments from other viewers who described it as "annoying", "absurd" and "unfair".

The last season of Industry ended with Harper (Herrold) being fired for lying about her educational background on her CV to land a job at Pierpoint.

The official synopsis for the upcoming season teases: "In season three, as Pierpoint looks to the future and takes a big bet on ethical investing, Yasmin, Robert, and Eric find themselves front and centre in the splashy IPO of Lumi, a green tech energy company led by Sir Henry Muck, in a story that runs all the way to the very top of finance, media, and government.

"After her exit from Pierpoint, Harper is depicted as desperate to dive back into the intoxicating world of finance, teaming up with an unexpected ally in FutureDawn portfolio manager Petra Koenig."

Joseph Charlton, writer and consulting producer, recently shared with Digital Spy that it's "fair to say the series won't shy away from acknowledging the real world, and things that are present in the news".

He said: "I think what's unique and good about the show... in the first series, there are references to Brexit. In the second series, there's Covid. In the third series, there'll be contemporary issues, too."
