BBC Waterloo Road: New stars and characters joining cast ahead of series 14

Excitement is brewing among Waterloo Road enthusiasts as the beloved school-based drama series gears up for its 14th outing, introducing an array of fresh faces to join the on-screen academic thrills.

After a nostalgic revival for an 11th series in 2023, following a nine-year hiatus, the show has quickly recaptured the hearts of viewers, who have eagerly embraced its comeback.

As the new series heralds an era marked by an upgraded academy status, a refurbished educational setting, and a fresh head at the helm, audiences are keen to meet the newcomers before classes commence on Wednesday 10 September.

Steve Savage (played by Jason Manford)

At the top of the register of new characters is Steve Savage (played by Jason Manford) who brings to life a man of enigmatic allure; noted for his confidence, cleverness and compelling knack for persuasion.

Delving into territory where ethics may blur, Steve Savage doesn't shy away from delving into murky waters if it serves a perceived higher purpose, showcasing a potential to go to extremes to safeguard his professional pursuits, reports the Manchester Evening News.

With his light-hearted demeanor and constant grin, there's a sense we're on the cusp of witnessing a complex Jekyll and Hyde persona unravel.

Jason Manford couldn't contain his joy about stepping into the role, stating: "I'm delighted! It's such a legendary show, not just on the BBC, but right here in the North West and Manchester as well."

Nisha Chandra (Saira Choudhry)

Adding to the teaching roster is Nisha Chandra (Saira Choudhry), stepping into the shoes of a Maths teacher whose lack of enthusiasm for her subject matter is bound to stir up some intricate student-teacher dynamics.

Described as a charismatic and super stylish woman who never experiences a bad hair day, former Coronation Street actress Saira will play a character who might stir things up with Coral Walker (Rachel Lescovak).

Choudhry shared: "She loves to gossip and she loves to wind the other staff members up, especially characters like Coral because those two are like chalk and cheese."

Billy Savage (Olly Rhodes)

Billy Savage, played by ex-Hollyoaks actor Olly Rhodes, is known for his effortless ability to draw attention due to his popularity, charm, and cool, indie vibe.

Despite his confident demeanour, Billy's underlying vulnerability is linked to the loss of his mother at a young age.

Billy is also the offspring of the new headteacher, Steve Savage.

Brian 'Boz' Osbourne (Nathan Wood)

Year 11 student, Brian 'Boz' Osbourne (Nathan Wood), has faced difficulties due to constantly moving between different foster homes.

He forms a connection with the bad boy Schuey Weaver (Zak Sutcliffe), although their relationship seems unbalanced with Boz simply following his friend's lead.

Nathan hinted about his role: "I think at the start they're going to really not like him. But I'm hoping that as the show goes on, they'll see what's hidden under all this armour for him, because he does find solace."

Waterloo Road returns on Wednesday 10 September on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
