BBC Weather issues 'exact date' snow will be worst in UK with 'eight inches' hitting
The BBC Weather team has explained the worst date of the month in regards to incoming snowfall. Monday is likely to be the most dirsupted date of the penultimate month of the year, as we head deeper into the month and towards December and Christmas.
Matt Taylor, who now works as a Broadcast Meteorologist at the BBC, says a “shot of chillier air” might be felt this weekend with “even colder”. Parts of northern England might even see snow on Monday as “air masses clash” over the region, Mr Taylor said.
Southern regions will also see a wintry start to the week, but think more “wet and windy” than winter wonderland. His warning on Twitter/X comes off the back of the Met Office issuing yellow weather warnings and alerts for the country.

The BBC outlook for Sunday onwards explains: "A crisp day on Sunday in the north with wintry showers mainly over coastal areas in the far north-east. Northern Ireland and north-west England and Wales will likely see outbreaks of heavy rain in the evening. Monday and Tuesday see the potential for some heavy snow though details on its exact placement currently remain uncertain.
"It will generally be colder and windy for all." The Met Office adds: "Sunny spells and wintry showers in the north. Cloudier elsewhere, with outbreaks of rain and stronger winds developing at times. Perhaps some snow over the higher ground. Colder for many."
Up to 20cm of snow - eight inches - is possible on higher ground on Monday and Tuesday, and there is a small chance of up to 10cm of snow settling at lower levels, which could prove disruptive, the Met Office said. The warning covers much of southern Scotland and north-east England, parts of Yorkshire, and parts of north-west England including Lancashire and Cumbria, and will be in force from 10am on Monday until 10am on Tuesday.
A separate warning for snow and ice is in place in northern Scotland from 4pm on Sunday until 11am on Monday.
