BBC's 'Real Housewives of ISIS', a sketch within the comedy show Revolting, has been cleared by Ofcom after complaints were made about scenes which made a Kardashian-style reality show out of the lives of suicide bombers.

The governing body, which regulates television broadcasts in the UK, said the scenes that poked fun at the housewives wearing matching suicide vests and using the #DeathToTheWest hashtag on their selfies had 55 complaints.

Ofcom deemed the show, which debuted on January 3, to be of "generally accepted standards" despite the fact it outraged some viewers.

The body said that the scenes, which also included the wives complaining about their husbands cheating with 40 virgins, "did not raise issues warranting investigation".

The skit sent up Real Housewives of Beverly Hills and was created by BAFTA-winning writers Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubinstein, who also created The Revolution Will Be Televised.

Prowse previously defended the show to The Sun, saying: "It's important not to pull your punches in satire. You have to be fearless or it undermines your credibility.

"You can't go after David Cameron for five years like we did and not go after Islamic State."

And fellow writer Rubinstein added: "It's about people who are vulnerable to these kind of approaches. We've had the 'White Widow', so this is actually happening to women here."
