The Duchess of Cambridge was beaming on Wednesday as she tried her hand at pool during a visit to a children’s mental health centre in south Wales.

Kate visited child and adolescent mental health project MIST in Torfaen – her first engagement with charity Action for Children since becoming patron.

Youngster Craig Davies, 15, became the Princess’ teammate in an impromptu game of pool and the pair spoke about their pets including Kate’s dog Lupo and hamster Marvin and his Jack Russell dog Wilf.

Kate was given bouquets of flowers by the children and told girls Ypapanti Galimatakis-Rees, eight, and Chloe Bartlett, 10: “Both George and Charlotte would have loved to have met you”.

MIST has been running for 12 years, working with young people and their carers or birth families to address complex mental health needs.

The Duchess spent time with the team behind MIST, birth parents and foster carers, and partners of the service including representatives from the local council and health board.
