The Bear has expanded its cast for its upcoming second season, with Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty star Molly Gordon joining the roster.

The actress, who plays Linda Zafrani on the sports drama, will join the FX drama in a “key recurring role” according to Deadline, though further details are being kept under wraps.

The first season of the drama, which airs on Hulu in the US and Disney+ worldwide, followed Carmen ‘Carmy’ Berzatto (Jeremy Allen White) as he ditched a career in fine dining for a sandwich shop in Chicago following the death of his brother.

The second season, which is due to premiere in June, had already secured one big name, with Better Call Saul’s Bob Odenkirk being lined up for a guest-part.

Upon the announcement of the second season, showrunner and creator Christopher Storer said: “We are so grateful to FX, our insanely talented cast, our crew who worked hard, fast and in the dead of winter, not to mention everyone who watched. We can't wait to bring you all back to The Bear in 2023.”

He also offered a glimpse as to what fans can expect from the next season, which will consist of 10 episodes as opposed to the eight from the first instalment.

“It almost feels like season one was sort of, 'Let's catch up', and season two is sort of like where the show properly begins, once we've met everyone and seen their backstory,” he said. “So it's been cool to just expand the world and just learn more about [the characters].

“Season two, really, it's about balance in a lot of ways, between time and what it means to start fresh and how you can start in a healthy direction. For somebody like Richie [the de-facto restaurant manager played by Ebon Moss-Bachrach], I think finding where he fits in is what he's looking for in season 2,” he added.

The Bear season 2 will premiere on Hulu and Disney+ in June.
