Bear Spotted Clinging to Pole in Center of Northern New Jersey Town

A bear scaled a utility pole at a busy intersection in the middle of a northern New Jersey town on Sunday, May 15, attracting attention from passersby.

Lt Joseph Soto, spokesman for the Wyckoff Township Police Department, said the small black bear stayed on the pole for 15 minutes before descending and leaving for a local pond, according to NJ.com.

The police department reported a bear sighting in the township’s Ravine Avenue area on May 1, but said the animal didn’t appear aggressive.

This video taken by Tricia Aupperlee shows the bear holding on to the pole.
