Bears' Justin Fields ruled out with rib injury vs. Ravens; Andy Dalton immediately throws TD as replacement

Chicago Bears starting quarterback Justin Fields headed to the locker room with a rib injury early in the third quarter on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, and was ruled out of the game.

Fields' status for Thursday's game against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving is suddenly a concern in a short week. He was replaced by Andy Dalton, who was seeing his first action since Week 5 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy had no real update on Fields' status after the game.

"I gotta see what type of injury he has," Nagy said after the game when asked if Fields had suffered broken ribs.

Initial tests on Sunday night did not reveal any broken ribs, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, though Fields is set to undergo further testing on Monday.

Ravens quarterback Tyler Huntley led a late game-winning drive at Soldier Field to deliver a dramatic 16-13 win, running the Bears' losing streak to five.

Dalton completed 11 of 23 passes for 201 yards and two TDs. The first TD came on his second play after replacing Fields, hitting Darnell Mooney on a 60-yard score to give the Bears a 7-6 lead. Dalton then hit Marquise Goodwin on a 49-yard bomb on 4th and 11 with just over a minute left to stake the Bears' defense with a 13-9 lead.

Fields came up gimpy after the Bears came up short on third down at the end of their first possession of the third quarter while scrambling. He had completed 4-of-11 passes for 79 yards and run four times for 23 yards, losing a fumble.

If Fields and Lions starting QB Jared Goff can't recover from their Week 11 injuries, it could be an all-backup appetizer for the first Thanksgiving game.
