Bea's Royal Wedding Hat Being Sold On eBay

The opinion-dividing hat worn by Princess Beatrice to William and Kate's wedding is to be auctioned on eBay, her mother has revealed.

Her mother, the Duchess of York, told Oprah Winfrey proceeds from the sale of the Philip Treacy creation would go to charity.

At the start of the interview, the ex-wife of Prince Andrew said: "Well, firstly, Beatrice wants to give you lots of love, and Eugenie, and say that she's eBaying her hat."

Oprah remarked there had been "a bit of a hat controversy", to which Sarah replied: "Yes, so Beatrice said to tell you that she's putting it on eBay to auction it for Unicef and for Children in Crisis."

The flamboyant creation made headlines and sparked pages on Facebook which have attracted thousands of fans.

Mocked-up pictures on the internet have seen the headgear compared to everything from a lavatory seat to a cat flap.

But in a recent interview with Grazia magazine, Princess Beatrice, 22, said it was "wonderful that it's had such a reaction".

She added: "It's an incredible response to a hat, really. I'm glad it provoked so much conversation."

In the interview with Oprah Sarah admitted she found it "so difficult" not to have been invited to the royal wedding on April 29.

The Duchess, who was filmed offering an undercover reporter access to the Duke of York for £500,000 last year, said she did not feel "ostracised" by not getting an invitation.

She added: "I felt that I ostracised myself by my behaviour, by the past, by living with all the regrets of my mistakes, that I sort of wore a hair shirt and beat myself up most of the day thinking and regretting: why did I make such a mistake?

"Why have I made so many mistakes? So I did spend a good three hours on that."
