A historic - but empty - Leicestershire village pub is set to re-open next spring after an "extensive revamp". The Duchess of Rutland, Emma Manners, is "personally overseeing" the project to refurbish The Manners Arms, in Knipton, and bring it back to life.

The Grade II-Listed, 18th Century building began life as a shooting lodge. Knipton, in the Vale of Belvoir, is a small village visible from Belvoir Castle, where the duchess lives.

The pub, in Croxton Lane, is part of the Belvoir Estate. It has 10 en-suite bedrooms, as well as a bar and dining room. The duchess said: “This beautiful, homely country retreat was the heart of Knipton village for many wonderful years and we would very much like to put The Manners back into the centre of the local community once again.

“The building is too stunning to leave empty with so many cherished memories attached to it. I feel people have missed The Manners Arms and all that it offered – so I hope the news of its re-opening will be very welcomed.”
