A beautiful winter wonderland is hiding within a familiar shed

A new ice skating rink has opened in Liverpool, nestled inside a shed in the heart of the Baltic Triangle's Cains Brewery complex. Previously home to a pet supplies business, the space has been transformed into a festive attraction.

The rink, formally known as IceBox, is part of BOXPARK’s winter entertainment showcase. However, it is downplayed by its name because within those four walls is a dreamy winter wonderland experience that earnestly blew me away.

My partner and I decided it was the perfect family outing for the kids. The four of us booked our tickets and made our way to the Baltic yesterday evening.

As soon as I laid eyes on the venue, I was genuinely taken aback by how much care and attention to detail organisers put into transforming an ordinary little shed into an impressive winter haven. IceBox is a beacon of white light against a complex shrouded in darkness.

The rink directly faces its sister venue at the entrance of Cain's Brewery. Music echoes faintly to not to disturb its surroundings but just enough to draw visitor's attention. The soundtrack is appropriately made up of classic Christmas bangers and a few modern favourites.

Every inch of the space has been beautifully decorated - from fabric draping centred by a hanging mirror ball, floor to ceiling snow nets and giant snowflakes, to wreaths, Christmas trees, a DJ booth, and lights twinkling around the entire venue.

To the left side of the entrance are cosy snow huts with fluffy white cushions and cascading fairy lights. The space is large enough for a group of ten to enjoy a moment's respite from the ice or warm up with a cup of hot chocolate.

My family and I were amazed so much could be accomplished with so little. We grabbed our skates and hit the ice for our session and although there were a few nasty falls along the way, it was a fantastically thrilling evening.

The ice skating rink is quite small which is to be expected. Skaters are still granted appropriate space to enjoy themselves without worries of elbowing a fellow guest.

You can also leave the ice as often as you like, whether it's for a quick breather or to grab a drink from the on-site kitchen. But be sure to spend the majority of your session on the ice because it will feel like minutes.

BOXPARK has accomplished the impossible by beautifully crafting an impressive winter space from the ground up that appeals to both kids and adults. We all had an amazing time.

Potentially best of all is the price tag. An adult ticket is £16.90 which grants you a full session on the ice and a £10 token to use at one of BOXPARK's food traders. So not only can the entire family enjoying skating with food and drink afterwards, you're not even breaking £20 per person.
