We always knew that the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast was going to deliver, especially after it waltzed straight the top of the US box office on its first weekend.

But now, Beauty and the Beast has surpassed Mamma Mia to become the biggest musical of all time at the UK box office.

Yep, Disney's reimagining waltzed to a $1.7m (£1.3m) sixth weekend for a dazzling $88.2m (£68.8m) to date – making it the eighth highest grossing film EVER.

It comes after Beauty and the Beast became the biggest film of 2017 so far, taking in nearly £40 million by its second weekend of release at the UK box office.

And according to Collider, Beauty and the Beast is currently sitting in seventh place as the biggest domestic opening of all time, as well as becoming the biggest opening for a PG-rated movie EVER.

While it dances off with all its money, it looks like the film will not get a sequel as Disney are wary after the negative reception of Alice Through the Looking Glass.

However, the company is apparently open to exploring "possible spinoff and prequel scenarios".

Beauty and the Beast stars Emma Watson, Dan Stevens, Emma Thompson, Ewan McGregor, Kevin Kline, Audra McDonald, Luke Evans, Josh Gad, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Stanley Tucci and Ian McKellen.

It's showing in cinemas now.
