A beauty editor picks the best bridal makeup products

There used to be a time when wedding season would be during the peak summer months of June, July and August, but now it's bridal season year-round. Of course, for celebrities and Royals they wouldn't dream of not having a glam squad, but whatever you decide for your big day, here are a few tips to bear in mind.

Firstly, always have a make-up trial if you’re having yours done professionally –  or even if you’re doing it yourself, it can be useful to get some pointers. Sometimes you don’t know what you want until it’s actually on your face. Maybe you think you want a natural look, but in reality would look better with a brown smoky eye. And should you go for a pink lip over a nude shade? Troubleshoot these questions in advance to make sure you don’t feel stressed when it comes to the crunch. The make-up artists on Bobbi Brown counters across the country are excellent for giving advice on colours and looks.

Secondly, really good wedding make-up should follow a ‘you, but better’ approach. Now’s not the time for experimenting with a strong red lip if you’d never usually wear it.

You know what flatters you. I think the best wedding make-up plays with tonal, fleshy shades across the spectrum – so anything in the pink, red or brown family, generally.  A soft smudgy brown liner paired with a blush cheek colour and a soft pink lipstick, for instance. Anchored with some black waterproof mascara, natch.  And thirdly, one of the trickiest things with wedding make-up is you typically want a glowing, fresh complexion, but one that will still look as good at the end of the night as it does first thing. So by all means get out the highlighters, but make sure you use a primer and a long-lasting foundation first. And when in doubt, spritz your skin with  a face mist during the day to keep your skin looking fresh. Over on the right are some of my favourite wedding make-up products   – some of which I kept in my clutch bag on my own special day.
