Beaver moon: How to catch the last supermoon of 2024

Stargazers will have the opportunity to witness the final supermoon of 2024 on Friday. Known as the Beaver Moon, it appear larger and brighter than usual when the moon is at its closest point to earth.

It will be visible from Friday, November 15, 2024, reaching peak illumination at around 9.25pm. Supermoons occur as a regular part of the moon’s orbit of Earth,

The Beaver Moon is the term for the first full moon in November and will be the last supermoon of 2024. The name originates from the time of year when beavers start constructing their winter dams.

Some believe the name was derived from Native Americans trapping beavers to stockpile meat for the winter months.

1 Get up high

The further up you are, the better your chance of a clear sky to see the stars. Take a hike and explore the surroundings to find the perfect stargazing spot! The further you are away from light pollution the better chance you'll have of seeing the stars. Moons always rise in the east and set in the west - so follow this direction in your search.

2 Research what you’re looking at
