A second round of protests are set to take place on Thursday (October 10) by 'Back the Beck' theatre campaigners. They are to coincide with the meeting of Hillingdon Council cabinet and come as the future of Beck Theatre in Hayes still hangs in the balance.

The demonstration is planned to take place outside the Civic Centre in Uxbridge, Hillingdon from 6pm. The first demonstration attracted widespread media attention as over people attended to voice their support for the theatre.

Hillingdon Council reiterate that there are no plans to close the Beck Theatre, however with Trafalgar Entertainment walking away from talks, and no word on who will take over in the new year, local residents remain concerned.

Johnathan Haynes, a 'Back the Beck' campaigner told the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS): "We've made lots of noise, and we have the public behind us. We hope that Trafalgar are back around the table again. We need to make sure there is something in place from January 5th, 2025."

The campaign group have garnered widespread support online, particularly on Facebook with over 1,400 followers. Suzy Lavington, a best-selling author, told Back the Beck: "The quality of training, the quality of performances that have always been synonymous with that place always blows my mind.

"I can't think of many people who spent their formative years at the Beck who didn't go into entertainment in some way. So in terms of a grassroots venue that churns out talent, I can't think of many places as integral in the country than the Beck Theatre."

The statement from Hillingdon Council remains: "Trafalgar Theatres has now informed us of their final decision to cease operations at the Beck, however the council is working hard to secure a new operating partner as soon as possible to minimise disruption and ensure a smooth transition.

"We are proud to have one of the best theatre offers in West London. We recognise the valuable contributions our theatres make to our communities and are committed to retaining a strong arts and culture offer."
