Upset organisers have confirmed that Bedworth's annual charity bonfire and fireworks event has been cancelled. CoventryLive revealed that the Bedworth Charity Bonfire and Fireworks 2024, which used to be known as the 'civic bonfire, was at risk.

This is because it cannot be held at its usual location - the Miners Welfare Park - due to works for the new physical activity hub, which will replace the old Bedworth Leisure Centre. There were attempts to find another location.

However, a spokesperson for the event has now confirmed that no new location has been found and, as a result, it will not be held this year.

In a statement issued to CoventryLive, the committee said it was 'regrettable' that the event could not take place as planned. "On behalf of the Nuneaton & Bedworth Bonfire Committee, we have regrettably reached the decision that the 2024 edition will not be going ahead as previously hoped," the statement reads.

"We have been working hard with both Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and others to identify a suitable alternative venue, but we have not been able to secure a site that would give us sufficient capacity and capability to host the event to our standards.

"Our sister event, Nuneaton Charity Bonfire & Fireworks, will still be going ahead at the Jubilee Sports Centre on Greenmoor Road, Nuneaton on Saturday 2nd November and we hope to see many of the regular attendees at our Bedworth show able to come along and support the Nuneaton show."
