Bedworth Civic Hall re-opening lease deadline moved

The deadline to secure the re-opening of Bedworth's Civic Hall has been extended. In an update, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council said that this Friday (June 7) is the new date for the lease to be agreed.

It comes after the Bedworth Civic Hall Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) asked for it to be moved so that it could secure essential funding. An agreement was signed in March between the council and the community group.

The council stressed previously that the lease would only take effect if the external funding promised by the CIO was in place. Now, following talks with the CIO, the Town Hall has said that it has agreed the fixed window for the group to secure the funding.

It is also the date when the council's promised pre-opening works should be complete. A council spokesperson said: "Following a request from the CIO, we have extended the deadline for the lease to be signed until Friday, 7 June.

“We have contractors on site carrying out work to ensure the venue can open to the public again. Hopefully by then, and when the CIO has completed its obligations, the lease will be able to be completed.’"

The CIO banded together to run the venue for the community after the council announced the Civic Hall would not re-open as an entertainment venue once it stopped being used as a Covid-jab hub. Last month, the CIP revealed it had secured £165,000 in funding, which means it can get the venue and Community Hub up and running next month. The grand re-opening is set to be on July 19 and 20.
