Beer-ger King: Burger King Becomes First UK Fast Food Chain To Sell Alcohol

Burger King is set to become the first fast food chain in the UK to sell alcohol.

It has been granted a drinks licence for its branch in Bury St Edmonds, Suffolk, where it wants to sell plastic bottles of American beer.

The branch will be allowed to sell alcohol to customers who are over the age of 18 after 9pm.

Only one beer per customer is permitted and no alcoholic drinks will be allowed off the premises.

Suffolk council gave Burger King the green light to sell beer despite opposition from local police.

The fast food company applied for a licence to serve alcohol seven days a week from 10am to 11pm but this was rejected.

Burger King has applied for similar licenses at a number of its UK branches, including Newcastle-under-Lyme, Hull and Blackpool.

It already sells alcohol in branches in some areas of the US, Spain, Singapore and Venezuela.
