Work begins on new Aberdeen Market entrance with scaffolding erected
Work on the Union Street entrance to the new £40million Aberdeen Market is underway after scaffolding was erected on site on Monday, September 16.
The project will see a brand new entrance to the market connecting Granite Mile visitors through what was the former BHS department store.
Long-since closed down, the concrete structure of the former shop entrance is set to be given a modern makeover with an impressive look.

Aberdeen City Council have updated residents on the works which are currently taking place along Union Street Central, between Bridge Street and Market Street.
Entrance works are due to last five days with the footpath closed off to the public, with access to businesses retained during the closure. Part of The Green is also closed during the works.
In their update, the council said: "Work to erect scaffolding on the front of the former British Home Stores building in Union Street, Aberdeen, will begin on Monday, September 16, 2024.
"The works form part of the new Market project, which is a key element of the City Centre and Beach Masterplan (CCBMP) to transform Aberdeen.
"Part of the south walkway in central Union Street, directly in front of former BHS building, will be closed off to the public for five days during the scaffolding works.
"The public will still have full access to the shops and services on the south walkway on either side of the closure. JD, the Aberdeen Gift and Tourist Shop, Aberdeen Vinyl Records and the HSBC bank will still be open for business as usual from the west end of the walkway, as will Attic Clothing from the east side.
"The scaffolding works are due to be completed on Friday, September 20, 2024 and the walkway will be fully reopened as normal."
Designs were revised earlier this year, with the latest images showing a glass frontage covering the current structure of the BHS building along with a canopy above the doors.
Meanwhile part of the city's history has been unveiled on the high street with the old tram tracks seen for the first time in decades.
Tucked behind the hoarding surrounding the new market entrance, rails have been revealed by teams digging up the Granite Mile.
Work to Union Street will see the area given new pavements and cycle lanes to create an improved experience for those visiting the city centre on foot and by bike.
Union Street Central's works are due to be completed in 2025, while the market is expected to be completed in 2027.
