Large crowds of pensioners descended on central Minsk, Belarus, on October 12, in opposition to President Alexander Lukashenko, who was inaugurated for a sixth term on September 23, after a disputed election on August 9.
Video shows large crowds of elderly Belarusians flying the opposition’s red-and-white flag, marching through one of the main roads in the city center. TUT.by reported that the protesters were chanting “faithful, we can, we are great,” “freedom for our children,” and “let go!”
The protest came the day after hundreds of people were detained by Belarusian security forces in Minsk as authorities deployed water cannons on protesters. Credit: TUT.by via Storyful
