Belfast International Airport has now fully transitioned into its new security facility.

The new security system has implemented the Next Generation Security screening equipment.

Passengers no longer have to remove liquids from hand their luggage when going through security. These can now be left in your bag and do not need to be in plastic bags.

Electronics can also now be left in your hand luggage when going through security.

An airport statement on social media said: "The new technology allows passengers to leave all electronics and liquids under 100ml in their hand luggage speeding up the security process and improving the overall passenger experience.

"Passengers should note that all electronic equipment; laptops, phones etc can now be left in their hand luggage alongside liquids under 100ml. Plastic bags are no longer required."

A spokesperson added: "We have now fully transitioned into our new security facility, equipped with the latest generation security technology, as part of the government's directive for UK airports to transition to Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC).

"As with all new systems, we are working to optimise processes and ensure a smooth and efficient experience for passengers.

"We kindly remind passengers to arrive at the airport in good time to allow for security screening.

"Please note that the current liquid restrictions remain in place: liquids, aerosols, and gels in hand luggage must be in containers of 100ml or less. This is in accordance with the recent Department for Transport (DfT) directive to UK airports using Next Generation Security Checkpoints (NGSC)."
