Beloved BBC Call the Midwife star confirms departure from Sunday night drama
Call the Midwife star Miriam Margolyes has said her goodbyes to the much-loved series Call the Midwife. The accomplished actress, who has never shied away from expressing her adoration for the hit BBC drama, has opted to step down from her role as Mother Mildred.
Despite her absence since 2021, fans have been eagerly anticipating news of Miriam's potential return or departure from the show, as reported by the Mirror. An insider confided in the Daily Star: "Miriam loved being part of the show because she absolutely adores it. But she is too busy to play Mother Mildred now so there are no plans for her to go back."
Indeed, Miriam Margolyes has formerly shared her insights into the show's charm, remarking: "It's about decent people doing decent things and that's rather rare on TV these days. It's wholesome but that doesn't mean it's dull - it's gripping. But when you see a programme about caring, about love and people looking after each other, it feeds the soul."

As fans digest the news of Miriam's departure, Call the Midwife is embarking on production for its new instalment. The series' spirit was captured in a heartwarming moment shared on the show's Instagram, featuring actor Stephen McGann, who portrays Dr Patrick Turner, at his son Dominic's wedding, with Max Macmillan, who plays Dr Turner's screen son Timothy, in attendance.
The caption read: "We are now all back filming series 14 after our customary summer break. It was our annual leave for the CTM team in the middle of the long year's filming, to allow us to see family and friends, book a holiday, and generally let our hair down!"
"For Stephen McGann (Dr Turner), there was no time for a holiday. He and his partner Heidi Thomas (Writer and Executive Producer) had something rather special to take care of - their son Dominic's wedding. It was a wonderful occasion by all accounts, and Call the Midwife partied the night away after the ceremony."
