Yahoo News Beloved Windows apps Paint and Wordpad are becoming 'optional' in new update
Microsoft’s 30-year-old Paint app is behind some of the most glorious internet art ever created - and who hasn’t tried out its paint buckets and pencils?
But now the beloved app is being put out to pasture (sort of), along with WordPad, a basic word processor included with Windows.
A new preview build of Windows (Windows 10 Build 1896) sees both apps being demoted to being ‘Optional Features’, which means they can be uninstalled from systems, according to Windows Latest.
But don’t despair, Paint fans: even if you do uninstall the classic app, it can be reinstalled from the Microsoft Store.
MS Paint has been bundled with Windows for nearly 35 years – ever since the first version of Windows, Windows 1.0, in 1985.
Wordpad has been bundled with Windows ever since Windows 95.
