Ben Shephard admits 'I need a drink' after Tipping Point contestant's proposal news
Tipping Point host Ben Shephard couldn't hide his disappointment when contestant Doug revealed his plans for the prize money. On Wednesday's episode (September 4), Doug breezed into the final, outplaying competitors Nile and Natasha to take on the jackpot counter. When it came to discussing his potential winnings, Doug had a clear plan in mind.
Ben queried: "Regardless of what happened, you've made it here. The others have gone. It's just you, Doug, and the machine, and the jackpot counter. Have you thought about what you'd like to do with the money if you get it out?" To which Doug responded: "I was planning to take an aborted trip back to Australia, but my daughter's boyfriend proposed while they were on a Norwegian cruise."
Understandingly, Ben said: "Oh, how inconvenient!" as Doug elaborated: "My wife, sadly, agreed to pay!", reports the Daily Star. Ben probed further: "So the money will go towards the wedding?" and Doug confirmed: "Somewhat." Ben continued: "Maybe a little bit to get you to Australia? Fingers crossed."

Ben added: "Either way it'd be lovely to be able to get you the jackpot so you can put some towards the wedding, which I don't doubt you would absolutely love, and hopefully that trip as well. So best of luck! ".
Doug's final play on Tipping Point was a nail-biter, but he ultimately hit the jackpot, winning the grand £10,000 prize as the studio lit up with golden hues. He narrowly missed out on doubling his winnings to £20,000 with a double counter drop it just wasn't in the cards for him.
However, Doug didn't walk away with just the cash; he also snagged a mystery prize, which turned out to be a voucher for a bottomless brunch. Ben Shephard quipped, "I need a drink after that!" and hinted at joining the celebration.
Doug, in good spirits, responded, "I'm going to go for that bottomless brunch now!" to which Ben concurred, "I think we all need it after that!"
Viewers were thrilled by Doug's victory, with one fan commenting: "So pleased for Doug. Tense ending. Love Tipping Point."
Another viewer praised, "That was close but well done Doug!" while a third chimed in, "He played well enough to deserve the double to be fair." Meanwhile, another fan humorously added, "Well done! £10K and a fry up at the local Wimpy with a bottle of Lambrini."
