Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley are set to take a hiatus from their roles on This Morning.

The popular presenters have announced they will be stepping back from the iconic blue sofa until September to spend the summer with their families.

They shared the update with viewers at the conclusion of Thursday's (July 11) show, expressing their gratitude by saying "thanks for having us". Since taking over hosting duties on March 11, Cat and Ben have been regular faces on the programme, appearing four times a week.

Starting Monday July 15, Alison Hammond and Dermot O'Leary, the audience's Friday favourites, will begin the series of packed summer episodes. Following them, a rotation of well-known daytime TV personalities will keep the energy high throughout the season.

The lineup includes Josie Gibson, Craig Doyle, Rylan Clark, Rochelle Humes, and Joel Dommett, with Sian Welby also returning to the screen after giving birth to her daughter Ruby, reports the Mirror.

Throughout the summer period, This Morning will offer viewers a virtual holiday experience with an array of seaside features from around the UK. Chef John Torode MBE will bring flavours of the Mediterranean to the kitchen, and there will be appearances from A-list celebrities such as Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman.

This Morning's editor, Martin Frizell, expressed his excitement for the show's summer line-up: "Viewers will not want to miss a moment this summer! The shows will be packed and whatever the weather, the team in front of the cameras and behind will deliver plenty of content to keep the nation smiling. I'm delighted Alison and Dermot are kicking things off and together with our brilliant family of hosts - made up of the biggest names in TV - they will be serving up really exciting content on Britain's biggest daytime show".

The summer presenters will helm the live two-and-a-half hour programme from White City's Television Centre until August 30, before Ben and Cat return to their positions on ITV's leading daytime show on September 2. From September 6, Alison and Dermot will once again take over Friday's hosting duties.

As is custom, all the primary hosts of ITV morning shows, including Good Morning Britain and Lorraine, take school holidays off and are substituted by co-stars and replacements.

Susanna Reid made a pause during Wednesday's (July 11) GMB to let viewers know she'll be absent from the show until September, although they "may" see her appear over the forthcoming couple of months.

Reassuring co-host Ed Balls, the TV personality said that he was in the "good hands" of the GMB team, featuring Charlotte Hawkins. Susanna declared, "I'm going to say goodbye because it's now time for me to go off on a break, which means I say goodbye to you at home. You never know, I might pop up in the meantime, but otherwise I will be back in September! ".

Ed queried, "Do you have to? " and followed up with, "Can't you just stay for a bit? " Susanna then comforted him by saying he would be well looked after during her time away.
