Ben Whishaw's most recent film Paddington 2 has been enjoying huge amounts of success in recent months, even becoming Rotten Tomatoes' best reviewed movie of all time earlier this week.

So naturally when Whishaw dropped by Graham Norton's Radio 2 show this morning (January 20), talk soon turned to whether or not they'd be following up the huge success of Paddington 2 with another sequel.

But even though producer David Heyman confirmed to Digital Spy that Paddington 3 is in the works last November, speaking today Whishaw didn't seem as confident.

"I don't know, Graham," he said. "I think that maybe they feel a bit like it's been so good and so successful how do you top it? Where do you go next? Maybe it's best to quit while you're ahead, there is a feeling.

"I think that would be good because it would be terrible to do a third one that wasn't very good. It's not impossible, but anyway, we'll see."

Of course, the actor is involved with another huge family film with Mary Poppins Returns, and Whishaw also revealed that we can expect the Banks children to be singing once again in the reboot.

"I do sing. Sort of," Whishaw said when asked if Michael Banks will be performing. "Speak-sing, I suppose, in the film. I can't really sing, but I have a go."

Whishaw plays a grown-up Michael Banks in the film, with the sequel picking up more than 20 years after the events of the original Disney classic after there is a "tragedy" in the Banks family.

Still, Graham Norton was quick to poke fun at the idea of Paddington Bear breaking into a song and dance number on the streets of 1930s London.

"Children are gonna get so confused," he joked. "Isn't that the bear? Why is the bear dressed as a young man?"

Mary Poppins Returns will also feature Emily Mortimer as a grown-up Jane Banks, while Emily Blunt takes over the role of Mary Poppins.

The film is expected in cinemas in December 2018.
