We may have just said goodbye to Sherlock for the foreseeable future, but it won't be long before Benedict Cumberbatch is back on our screens and looking more like the 19th century detective we're familiar with in this first look at the upcoming The Current War.

Cumberbatch stars as Thomas Edison in the upcoming drama film, which details the rivalry between Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse and the race to create a marketable and sustainable electricity system.

As history buffs will know, Edison championed the use of a direct current for electric power distribution over an alternating current, and invented a host of items still in use today.

See. Who says movies can't be educational?

It may not sound like the most intriguing of premises, but the movie actually has quite the buzz around it, due - in part - to its stellar cast.

Cumberbatch will star alongside Michael Shannon (Nocturnal Animals), Katherine Waterston (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them), BAFTA rising star nominee Tom Holland (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Nicholas Hoult.

The movie will be directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon, who directed indie hit Me, Earl and The Dying Girl, written by YA thriller writer Michael Mitnick and produced by Harvey Weinstein and The Weinstein Company.

All of which make for some pretty strong credentials, if you ask us.

And if that's not enough to go on, Cumberbatch will also be working on the movie behind the scenes too, serving as an executive producer on the film.

The Current War won't be released until later this year, but, until then, here's the actor throwing some seriously questionable dance moves in his Sherlock gear to keep you entertained in the meantime.
