We've yet to meet Benicio del Toro's Star Wars character DJ, but we already know that we want him to stick around. Who doesn't love a bit of mystery, right?

Fortunately, Benicio is more than happy to oblige, as he told Digital Spy at tonight's (December 12) European premiere of The Last Jedi that he loves playing the new character.

And that's despite not even being a huge follower of Star Wars.

"I wasn't like a super super-fan like there are...but I was a fan," del Toro said when asked abouthe'd been a fan of the franchise before signing up for Episode VIII, del Toro was quick to downplay things:

Taking on a role in the series seems to have boosted his love for it, though, as when asked if DJ could be relied upon as an Ally, Benicio told us he 'didn't care' as long as he's around.

"I hope that he's around, though," he said. "I don't care whatever which way, I hope he's around because I love playing him."

And so do we – because, let's face it, DJ is an enigma at the moment. Which is pretty apt when you consider that he's a codebreaker.

Previously, the bounty of Force Friday gave us a little insight into what DJ's name might mean via a Funko Pop! figure of his character, no less.

Yep, apparently the Aurebesh script on DJ's headband can be translated into the words "Don't Join", confirming that he has no loyalty to the Resistance, Republic or the First Order.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released in cinemas on December 14 (!) in the UK and a day later on December 15 in the US.
