A British holidaymaker's expectations for a sunny getaway in Benidorm were dashed as she encountered torrential rain, with her experience shared in a viral TikTok video.

Despite the UK enjoying 25C temperatures this week, the popular Spanish resort presented a stark contrast, much to the tourist's dismay. The video, posted by Jessica (@jessicarose049) on Wednesday (September 18), captured the grim weather conditions.

As the holidaymaker panned across the town centre, heavy rain could be seen drenching the streets, causing holidaymakers to scramble for shelter and brandish umbrellas. "Lovely weather today," Jessica wrote sarcastically in her clip's caption.

She lamented: "We go home Saturday and I'm pretty sure it's raining again tomorrow." The comments section quickly filled with commiserations and similar woeful stories from other travellers.

One TikTok user recounted hastily retreating from the poolside to their balcony, eliciting a reply from Jessica: "We were stuck waiting for our bus under a leaky shop roof!"

Another cursed: "Poor you, it was like this in Costa Brava last week." Whilst a third added: "Hopefully the weather picks up we are here at the moment for two weeks."

Others, meanwhile, expressed relief at having narrowly avoided the downpour, reminiscing about the scorching heat they enjoyed just the week before. "Was there last week was so hot," one user recalled, adding, "I miss that place."

A second recently returned traveller commented: "Got home Sunday it was in the 30s all week. And a third person highlighted: "Came home yesterday missed it." Jessica, left with no choice but to see the funny side, quipped: "My hotel is all the way up by the mountain, to be fair I could have just swam there!"

It comes after British holidaymakers in Spain were hit with a new "six-drink" limit in some all-inclusive resorts due to unruly behaviour.

The introduction of this rule aims to prevent guests from embarking on day-long drinking sessions starting in the morning. "Although binge drinking may be common practice in many countries, people in Spain like to take their time with drinking," Christian Wolf, the CEO of CW Real Estate Ibiza, explained.
