Unless you worked tirelessly during your teen years (or grew up in a cashed-up household), taking a ‘gap yah’ at 18 to travel the world probably wasn’t a viable option.

And once you start full-time work, it’s hard to press pause on your career for an extended period to go travelling.

So when is the best time to take an adult gap year? If you thought your late twenties was the most ideal time, a new survey has revealed it may be worth waiting an extra decade.

The survey by travel agent, Florida4Less, asked 2,000 Brits when the best age to travel the world and take an adult gap year was. Surprisingly, the most popular answer was 37.

This is because the respondents believed that your late 30s is when you would get the most benefit out of travelling to bucket list locations.

The survey also revealed that Amsterdam, Barcelona, New York and Berlin were the top destinations to visit in your 30s.

Researchers revealed Amsterdam’s culture would be most appreciated in your early 30s while Barcelona’s architecture would be appreciated in your mid-30s.

While your late 30s is often considered to be a time when most are ‘settling down’ and having kids, it seems travelling the world could be a viable alternative.
