Ant McPartlin has given a rare update on fatherhood after welcoming his baby son.

The 48-year-old became a dad in May this year when he welcomed a baby boy with his wife Anne-Marie Corbett, 46. In his first interview about becoming a dad, the TV presenter said it was "wonderful" and it had been "the best year".

Mirror Online reports how he said: "I'm really good, I'm really happy. There are lots of nappies and sleepless nights but it's absolutely wonderful. I'm loving it. It's been the best year."

Ant said he has been given tips by his TV sidekick Dec Donnelly, 48, who already has two children with his wife Ali Astall. He said: "Dec has been very good, he's given me some good advice."

However Dec admitted his advice isn't always helpful. He joked: "I do share tips and things. They're very bad. My tips are normally: give the baby to somebody else! That's it."

The Geordie duo scooped up the Best Presenter Award at the NTAs for the 23rd year running on Wednesday night. They saw off tough competition from Alison Hammond, Claudia Winkleman, Bradley Walsh and Stacey Solomon, to extend their winning streak.

While collecting the dong at The O2 in London, Dec said: "Thank you – it’s really hard to put into words just how this feels and what it means to us that you take the time to vote for us." Ant described the award as a "joy" and joked that one day they will not collect it, but tonight was not the night.

They also thanked their teams and families before reflecting on how their lives have changed over the years, especially since becoming fathers. Dec also thanked his daughter for giving him her lip balm for good luck.

Ant has turned his life around since his battle with an addition to painkillers. Between 2015 and 2019, he hit rock bottom and was forced to take a break from TV.

He is now back on track and gearing up for another series of I'm at Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! He will jet to Australia next month with Dec to start rehearsals.

Ant said: "We've enjoyed having a break this summer. We've been busy. We look forward to doing I'm A Celebrity. It's getting cold now, so it's time for a trip to Australia and some winter sun. I know a bit about the series. I've been chatting to some people and I know some names. They're really good. I'm really happy."
